Frequently Asked Questions
-
MHAP is the Mental Health Action Partnership of Wisconsin, a statewide coalition that aims to improve Wisconsin’s mental health system. MHAP’s vision is that every person in Wisconsin will be able to easily access quality, affordable mental health care in their community.
-
“Action” is the key word in MHAP’s name. The Mental Health Action Partnership formed when a group of advocates came together and agreed on the need for a coordinated effort to identify issues in Wisconsin’s mental health system, recommend solutions to those problems, and work with decisionmakers to advance those solutions.
The word “Action” is important because MHAP does not just talk about problems—we work to make a difference. This includes educating state legislators and leaders at state agencies about MHAP’s work and creating sign-on letters to show the broad support for our proposals.
-
Membership in the Mental Health Action Partnership is very open at this time. There are no requirements or costs to participate in MHAP and be considered a member—all we ask is that you have an interest in improving Wisconsin’s mental health system and are willing to collaborate in good faith with other MHAP partners.
-
MHAP membership includes a wide range of participants: mental health providers, county human services departments, crisis response professionals, nonprofit advocacy organizations, mental health-trained law enforcement officers, peers (people with lived experience of mental health conditions), family members and supporters, and more. Anyone who cares about improving Wisconsin’s mental health system and is willing to collaborate is welcome to participate.
Thanks to our broad membership, we can all learn from the perspectives of others, gain a more comprehensive understanding of the needs and gaps in Wisconsin’s mental health system, and identify effective, creative solutions.
-
There is no cost to participate in the Mental Health Action Partnership or to attend MHAP Summits and MHAP Learning Sessions.
-
While the Mental Health Action Partnership focuses on system-level changes including public policy, MHAP works because we all agree to learn together and from each other. Every MHAP participant has a unique perspective and experience of the mental health system to share. MHAP also supports learning through our virtual Learning Sessions.
